Mother of the Bride: Karen’s Teal Head-Turning Gown

KarenMOBAs seen in, Slice.ca…

Each week, we’re picking a favourite dress from Mother of the Bride and showing you how you can get the look. And to make it even sweeter, Terrie (co-owner of T. Carolyn Fashions) will be sharing all of her dress-picking secrets.

Slice.ca: Tell us about this dress.
Terrie: It’s a tip-of-the-shoulder, soft tulle over sequined lace A-line gown. The ruched bodice features a sash with hand-crafted flower accent (not shown here), dropped waistline, and an illusion overlay skirt. There is a matching shawl included. It’s shown here in teal/purple.

Slice.ca: How did Karen end up in this gown?
Terrie: Karen is a self-described “rock and roll” mom who walked into the store wearing combat boots.  Karen said she was looking for something vintage-looking.

Slice.ca: Tell us why this dress works for Karen.
Terrie: This is an extremely unique gown.  The colour is beautiful on Karen. Three different fabrics in differing colours are layered to give it beautiful depth of colour and texture.  The innovative combinations of fabrics are: a gorgeous magenta iridescent taffeta, with an overlay of pale silver sequined lace, with an overlay of teal net.  This gown has a great silhouette!  The finishing touch for this gown is a beautiful teal satin ribbon belt with a large three-dimensional multi-colour flower.  It didn’t meet with Karen’s edgy style so she immediately removed it. Sorry, you’ll have to watch the episode to see it as the designer intended.

‘Mother of the Bride’ forgoes Bridezillas for Momzillas

Slice’s new reality show, Mother of The Bride, follows the search for Mama’s perfect dress. When you think of wedding planning, looking for Mom’s dress doesn’t usually come to mind. Usually what does is the fighting – er, shopping – for the bride’s or bridesmaids’ dresses. But as this new series proves, shopping for the MOB (Mother of the Bride) be just as emotionally draining… (Click on the link below to read more)

Mother of the Bride: Steal Marian’s Look

Mother-of-the-Bride-Marian-FeaturedAs seen on “The Slice Blog…”

I pulled this dress for Marian because she wanted to wear a navy gown and she was insecure with her new body. Navy is a safe and emotionally comfortable colour for many women. Her family and friends were very vocal about not wanting her to wear navy. They wanted Marian to experiment and be bolder. I knew that if I put Marian in a navy gown she looked fabulous in from the beginning it would build her confidence, and in the end, help her relax, have fun and feel free to experiment… (Click on the link below to read more)
