Each week, we’re picking a favourite dress from Mother of the Bride and showing you how you can get the look. And to make it even sweeter, Terrie (co-owner of T. Carolyn Fashions) will be sharing all of her dress-picking secrets.
Slice.ca: Tell us about this dress.
Terrie: It’s a tip-of-the-shoulder, soft tulle over sequined lace A-line gown. The ruched bodice features a sash with hand-crafted flower accent (not shown here), dropped waistline, and an illusion overlay skirt. There is a matching shawl included. It’s shown here in teal/purple.
Slice.ca: How did Karen end up in this gown?
Terrie: Karen is a self-described “rock and roll” mom who walked into the store wearing combat boots. Karen said she was looking for something vintage-looking.
Slice.ca: Tell us why this dress works for Karen.
Terrie: This is an extremely unique gown. The colour is beautiful on Karen. Three different fabrics in differing colours are layered to give it beautiful depth of colour and texture. The innovative combinations of fabrics are: a gorgeous magenta iridescent taffeta, with an overlay of pale silver sequined lace, with an overlay of teal net. This gown has a great silhouette! The finishing touch for this gown is a beautiful teal satin ribbon belt with a large three-dimensional multi-colour flower. It didn’t meet with Karen’s edgy style so she immediately removed it. Sorry, you’ll have to watch the episode to see it as the designer intended.
